He was inspired to write this line after a real conversation @emoryuniversity about how @cartercenter’s work would continue after his death.

“I, now dead, have recently reduced my level of participation." This is what Carter would jokingly say if he were to deliver his own eulogy. When I was doing research for my story on #Carter, I discovered a @cspan interview from 1995 about a poem he wrote… 🧵
